Twile - Chiaroscuro
This 4 track EP gave me a little reminder of why I loved to watch television at night when I was living in germany: Spacenight!
The first track “Chiaroscuro” would fit a space night session erfectly, and I was already seeing some astronauts slowly gliding through the void outer space, stars and a space shuttle in the backgroud, the sun reflecting on the pitch black front shield of the helmet.
Joko13’s remix compresses this ambient infinity into a more straight forward version, adding a straight, clicky beat and a driving, loopy bassline. But when the dubby chords and delayed snare hits kick in the track gains space and we realize that this time we’re inside of the space shuttle, moving with 30.000 miles per hour, watching the planets pass by.
“True Bohemian” instead sounds dubby and playfull, nearly childish. It clearly is a reference to dub ragga but sounds a wee bit more electronic, the off beat chords beeing open filter syths.
Clearly adding rhytmic complexity and sonic elements, Dataman takes this track and turns it into even more of a dub track. The open filters and shynths remain, but in come vocals and a 303 type hook that makes the track picking up energy towards the end.
